Patient Consent
Under Ontario’s Health Care Consent Act (HCCA), every patient must provide informed consent before receiving treatment at Rainville Chiropody Professional Corporation. This means the patient (or substitute decision-maker) must understand the nature, benefits, risks, alternatives, and likely outcomes of refusing treatment. We generally document consent with a signed form, although verbal consent may be valid if properly explained, understood, and recorded.
In addition, patients must agree to our financial policy (covering fees, billing processes, and payment responsibilities). While this is separate from clinical consent under the HCCA, we typically collect both consents at the same time for convenience.
If a patient cannot or will not provide informed consent, we are unable to treat them. Our regulated health professionals, supported by our clinic team, are responsible for ensuring consent is properly obtained. Failure by any staff member to follow these requirements may result in disciplinary action under clinic policy. In alignment with the College of Chiropodists’ Patient Relations Standard and provincial law, we take consent and patient rights very seriously.
